An Update Regarding COVID-19 Coronavirus
4th Annual Hunger Banquet Tentatively Rescheduled to June 17, 2020
Following the confirmation of community spread in Iowa, new official recommendations suggest canceling all gatherings of 10 people or more. The health and safety of our community is our greatest concern.
Therefore, CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank has decided to postpone the 4th Annual Hunger Banquet. All proceeds from this event are critical to the success of the Food Bank. Each year, the Hunger Banquet raises the financial resources to provide fresh produce and shelf-stable staples to more than 1,100 families each week for 6 months out of the year.
We are very thankful to the Graduate Iowa City for working with us to establish a new date.
Please save the NEW date! The 4th Annual Hunger Banquet is tentatively moving to June 17, 2020.
We are planning to send a mailing out in the near future with the new date. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
We know that this is a time of increased uncertainty and anxiety for many, and we are here to offer support. At this time, we are implementing measures to continue providing services in the safest way possible. Our top priority is to support the health and safety of our clients, volunteers, and staff.
CommUnity is closely monitoring recommendations by the CDC and IDPH regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, and will continue making adjustments as needed to best support our community. Please visit builtbycommunity.org/covid19 for a full listing of services and closures.
Do you know what it’s like to be hungry?
More than 19,000 of our neighbors know hunger know all too well. They know what it’s like to be hungry- really hungry. They know what it’s like to scrape together a meal to feed their children, then go to bed with an empty stomach themselves. They know how far they can stretch their paycheck, or what bills can be paid late. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, they know there’s somewhere they can turn for help.
CommUnity Food Bank is here for all Johnson County residents. Last year, CommUnity distributed a record-breaking 2,000,000 pounds of food to 4,583 households.
Register today for the 4th Annual Hunger Banquet to make sure our neighbors continue to know they can turn to CommUnity for help.
When you register for the 4th Annual Hunger Banquet, you aren’t signing up to attend “just another fundraiser.” The Hunger Banquet is designed to immerse guests in the reality of food insecurity in our community. Based on the income levels in Johnson County, some guests will receive a chicken dinner, a lucky few will receive a steak and lobster dinner, and far more will receive no meal at all.
Doors open for cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Cash bars will be available.
Thank you to our sponsors!
Your support of the 4th Annual Hunger Banquet helps keep expenses down and ensures that every dollar raised goes to fighting food insecurity in Johnson County.
