Meals on the Move

For many of our elderly, disabled, and low-income neighbors, accessing food isn’t as simple as driving to the store or visiting a food pantry. They rely on CommUnity Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry – a lifeline that brings fresh, nutritious groceries directly to care homes, apartment buildings, and underserved rural areas across Johnson County. But that lifeline is now at risk.

CommUnity’s current Mobile Pantry truck is aging and unreliable, breaking down frequently and putting essential food deliveries in jeopardy. To meet growing demand and ensure consistent service, CommUnity must raise $175,000 by the end of this month to purchase a new, specialized Mobile Pantry vehicle.

Thanks to a generous matching grant from the Community Foundation of Johnson County and individual donors, the we have received $121,380 toward the goal. Now, just $53,620 more is needed by the end of the month to ensure that this vital program continues and expands to meet the need.

The new truck will include refrigeration for perishable items, greater storage capacity, and improved accessibility, allowing us to serve more neighbors more frequently and more effectively.

“For so many of our clients, the Mobile Pantry is their only source of groceries,” said Julia Winter, our Director of Development. “When the truck fails, people go hungry. We’ve made incredible progress thanks to our community’s generosity, but we’re not there yet. We need your help to keep this program—and our neighbors—fed.”

Our neighbors need you to close the gap and get the new truck on the road as soon as possible. Every donation counts. Every neighbor deserves to eat.
