June 1st marks the beginning of the month-long celebration of Pride!
Since Bill Clinton’s presidency, the month of June has been a month of celebration for the LGBTQ+ community with many parades and events located throughout the entire United States. Pride month honors the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which “was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States” (loc.gov). The first Pride march that happened in New York City occurred on June 28, 1970, and since then, there have been a multitude of marches happening all around the United States.
