After two years of virtual events, the Hunger Banquet is returning in person this year! We hope you’ll consider joining us on April 21st at the Coralville Hyatt Regency for this interactive and educational event.
If you’re still undecided about attending and would like to know more about what’s in store for the 6th Annual Hunger Banquet, read on!
What is a Hunger Banquet?
The Hunger Banquet is an immersive social experience in which members of the Johnson County community gather to learn the latest on the state of food insecurity in our area. The evening will include updates from CommUnity’s CEO, Sarah Nelson, a look at changes to Iowa SNAP benefits from Natalie Veldhouse, Chair of the Iowa Hunger Coalition, and opportunities to engage with fellow supporters to rethink how we can best help disrupt the cycle of crisis.
Will I receive a meal?
If you’ve attended a Hunger Banquet in the past, you know the answer to this question isn’t black and white! While 13% of registered guests will be chosen at random to represent the individuals in our community who go to bed hungry, the guests who do receive a meal have the option to share.
What happens after dinner?
Once dinner is served, the program continues with the aforementioned speakers, a client testimonial video, and the interactive portion of the evening! Guests are encouraged to bring their smartphones for participation right from their seats.
Where will I sit?
If you have a party of 6-8 guests, we’d recommend purchasing a table. If registering in a party of 1-5, please indicate the names of friends you’d like to be seated with. If you don’t have a preference, we’d be happy to seat you at a table hosted by a CommUnity staff or board member.
Is this a family-friendly event?
Guests of all ages are welcome to attend! We do ask that the topics of hunger and food insecurity are discussed with young children prior to the event and would be happy to provide resources.
Where do the proceeds go?
Proceeds from the 6th Annual Hunger Banquet will be directed toward CommUnity Food Bank. Each year, funding from the Hunger Banquet allows us to purchase up to 6 months’ worth of fresh produce and non-perishable food items.
What COVID precautions will be taken?
We understand that health concerns surrounding COVID-19 still exist and respect your choice to participate at your comfort. We’re limiting the total number of attendees to 300 and reducing the number of guests at each table to create an open feel. Guests are welcome to wear masks but are not required to do so. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the venue and if requested, guests may be given a social distancing indicator.
How do I register?
Simply visit builtbycommunity.org/hungerbanquet2022. Please register by April 15!
Can I still donate, even if I’m not able to attend?
Absolutely. Whether you’re able to contribute $1 or $100, your gift will go directly toward the fight against hunger. Please select the “Cannot Attend” option and proceed with the registration process. Thank you for your support!
You’ve made it to the end – congratulations! We hope this has been helpful and informative. If you have any lingering questions, please don’t hesitate to call Julia Winter at 319-351-2726 ext. 105.
